Objective
The overall objective of PHARMANOVA II is the development of technological tools and solutions advanced for the search and development of targeted therapies based on biomolecules natural of plant origin, enabling the design of innovative strategies to prevent and treat the inflammatory processes associated with diseases of the colonic mucosa and colorectal cancer.
Activities
- Development of advanced cell systems for the research of bioactive compounds with application in inflammatory intestinal diseases.
- Research into the fractionation of substances of natural origin with potential therapeutic applicability through SC CO₂ processes.
- Study of therapeutic molecule encapsulation strategies.
- Technology transfer
- Dissemination and communication
- Management and coordination
Results
- Screening platform based on human cells representative of the pathology under study, enabling an agile and rapid tool to discover new molecules for therapeutic purposes.
- Inflammation reporter cell line treated with an inflammatory stimulus. (Caco-2/NFKB) to be used as a screening platform and as an advanced 3D model based on microfluidics (Ooc).
- Technology for obtaining 3D spheroids and inflamed 3D spheroids for the evaluation of compounds targeting specific biological targets in intestinal inflammatory processes.
- Process methodology using supercritical carbon dioxide for the fractionation of natural substances with therapeutic potential from solid plant matrices.
- Specific encapsulation methodology by spray drying, using mucoadhesive materials such as chitosan, alginate and gellan gum, which enables the protection of active ingredients against digestive processes, as well as their adhesion to the intestinal mucosae.
