In 1975, a group of Spanish citrus cooperatives joined forces to expand their product range, reach new markets and improve their negotiating position with large-scale retailers. This marked the birth of Anecoop, a company that brings together 73 cooperatives and associated companies, and which has become the leading fruit and vegetable group in the Mediterranean area.
Grupo Anecoop brings together companies whose activity ranges from research through to product delivery at the point of sale. In this context, AINIA and Anecoop have collaborated on projects such as Idrone and CERES, in which demonstrative precision agriculture models were developed to facilitate fieldwork and optimise crops.
We spoke with the Project Coordinator at ANECOOP, Nicolás Juste, to learn more about the background and challenges of this agricultural organisation.
