Trials using a dynamic colonic fermentation digester (microbiota modulation)

Evaluating gastrointestinal resistance, intestinal absorption and the functionality of bioactive compounds, including their ability to modulate the gut microbiota, are essential stages in the development of functional foods. The integrated system of the in vitro Dynamic Digester and cellular models allows us to study the gastrointestinal resistance of the compounds contained in foods, their intestinal absorption and their functional effect on target organs.

Composed of five compartments: stomach, small intestine and the three sections of the large intestine (ascending, transverse and descending colon). Like the previous one, it is computer-controlled and each compartment applies the particular pH, enzyme secretion, etc. conditions that are relevant. These tests last 1 month (7-11 days for stabilising the microbiota with which we inoculate, and about 3 weeks for the test itself).
