En raison de son abondance intestinale, elle est utilis\u00e9e comme <strong>indicateur de contamination f\u00e9cale<\/strong> dans l\u2019eau et les aliments.<\/p>\n<p>La plupart des souches sont commensales et inoffensives. Les principales voies sont :<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Contamination en production primaire<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Utilisation de fumier non trait\u00e9.<\/li>\n<li>Eau d\u2019irrigation contamin\u00e9e.<\/li>\n<li>Sols fertilis\u00e9s avec une mati\u00e8re organique insuffisamment compost\u00e9e.<\/li>\n<li>Pr\u00e9sence d\u2019animaux sauvages ou de b\u00e9tail dans les zones de culture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Contamination pendant l\u2019abattage et la traite<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Les ruminants, en particulier les bovins, sont consid\u00e9r\u00e9s comme le principal r\u00e9servoir de STEC et d\u2019EHEC.
