On the one hand, it aims to study and understand the scope of the advanced in vitro dynamic digestion equipment with regard to its ability to predict the gastrointestinal solubility profile of molecules incorporated into complex matrices, such as drugs with controlled-release formulations or pellet-type formulations. In this way, the aim is to carry out in vitro studies with this digester on this type of pharmaceutical formulation, in order to understand and validate the digester\u2019s ability to predict the dissolution profile of this type of drug. This activity was not addressed in the previous DIALFARMA project, which focused on immediate-release molecules.   <\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, this project aims to develop an advanced device for studying the simulation of intestinal absorption, taking into account the importance of fluid dynamics in both the luminal and basolateral compartments on the final absorption of the compounds contained in intestinal digests. Thus, the development of a specific device is proposed to simulate the flow of intestinal contents, applying a continuous inflow and outflow of gastrointestinal contents from the intestinal lumen. Likewise, a flow will be applied on the basolateral side, thereby emulating the blood flow of the portal vein, which irrigates the intestine, thus removing the compounds that have been absorbed during digestion.  <\/p>\n<p>In addition, the aim is to carry out a feasibility study of an integrated system that includes the simultaneous operation of the new advanced in vitro dynamic digester already developed in the first phase of the project (DIALFARMA), together with the intestinal absorption simulation device. Thanks to this integrated system, the simulation of the gastrointestinal digestion process will be carried out simultaneously with intestinal absorption, meaning that the intestinal digestion of the jejunum and ileum will be performed on intestinal content that will have progressively undergone an intestinal absorption process. This system will represent an advance in in vitro gastrointestinal digestion assays by simultaneously considering digestion and absorption, thus constituting a differentiating aspect compared with the technologies available on the market, which generally perform intestinal absorption under static conditions or incorporate it into the in vitro gastrointestinal digestion process through the use of dialysis or filtration membranes.  <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Activities<\/h2>\n<p>1.
