In this context, within the <strong data-start=\"523\" data-end=\"538\">BIOPROSPECT<\/strong> project we have worked on the identification, characterisation and functional validation of new microbial strains through <strong data-start=\"661\" data-end=\"709\">advanced microbial bioprospecting strategies<\/strong>, combined with technological tools that streamline and optimise their evaluation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"793\" data-end=\"1075\">BIOPROSPECT has enabled us to expand knowledge and obtain <strong data-start=\"851\" data-end=\"881\">lactic acid bacteria (LAB)<\/strong> with fermentative and probiotic potential, while also developing an <strong data-start=\"950\" data-end=\"1018\">automated platform for microbial growth screening and monitoring<\/strong>, clearly oriented towards future industrial application.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1082\" data-end=\"1143\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=s_H6CJmK3Ic\"><strong data-start=\"1086\" data-end=\"1143\">Video: BIOPROSPECT results and technological approach<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1145\" data-end=\"1419\">In this video, we present the main results of the project and the technological approach developed to identify and evaluate microorganisms of interest from <strong data-start=\"1301\" data-end=\"1347\">deep marine environments and human samples<\/strong>, as well as their potential to generate new biotechnological solutions.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/s_H6CJmK3Ic?si=1khQa3oRXKRwxSEY\" width=\"800\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1426\" data-end=\"1515\"><strong data-start=\"1430\" data-end=\"1515\">Microbial bioprospecting in diverse environments to expand microbial biodiversity<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1517\" data-end=\"1960\">Within BIOPROSPECT, microbial bioprospecting was approached through two complementary sources. On the one hand, sampling campaigns were carried out in <strong data-start=\"1668\" data-end=\"1693\">deep-sea environments<\/strong>, with the aim of identifying underexplored microbial genera with biotechnological potential. On the other hand, we worked with <strong data-start=\"1821\" data-end=\"1851\">human samples from infants<\/strong>, a particularly relevant source for isolating lactic acid bacteria associated with the intestinal ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1962\" data-end=\"2094\">From these sources, <strong data-start=\"1982\" data-end=\"2017\">more than 100 bacterial strains<\/strong> were isolated and subjected to a structured screening and selection process.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"2101\" data-end=\"2170\"><strong data-start=\"2105\" data-end=\"2170\">Genotypic and functional characterisation of selected strains<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2172\" data-end=\"2486\">A significant proportion of the isolated strains underwent <strong data-start=\"2231\" data-end=\"2275\">comprehensive genotypic characterisation<\/strong> using sequencing techniques, enabling a full genetic profile to be obtained. This approach allowed us to assess the <strong data-start=\"2392\" data-end=\"2424\">safety of each microorganism<\/strong> and to identify functional properties of industrial interest.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2488\" data-end=\"2941\">In parallel, an <strong data-start=\"2504\" data-end=\"2545\">extensive phenotypic characterisation<\/strong> was carried out, evaluating key parameters such as tolerance to adverse conditions, fermentative capacity and probiotic potential. These studies were supported by <strong data-start=\"2709\" data-end=\"2728\">in vitro assays<\/strong> to assess resistance to gastrointestinal transit and colonic fermentation, as well as the ability of the microorganisms to adhere to epithelial models, providing relevant information on their probiotic potential.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2943\" data-end=\"3200\">The results confirm that several of the evaluated strains exhibit <strong data-start=\"3009\" data-end=\"3051\">resistance to acidic pH and bile salts<\/strong>, favourable fermentative behaviour and effective interaction with epithelial models, reinforcing their interest for applications in food and health.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-185788 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ainia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gastrointestinal-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"digestores AINIA\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ainia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gastrointestinal-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.ainia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gastrointestinal-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ainia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gastrointestinal-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.ainia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gastrointestinal-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.ainia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/gastrointestinal-2048x1152.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 data-start=\"3207\" data-end=\"3272\"><strong data-start=\"3211\" data-end=\"3272\">Automated platform for microbial screening and monitoring<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3274\" data-end=\"3532\">As a key technological outcome of the project, BIOPROSPECT has led to the development of an <strong data-start=\"3366\" data-end=\"3388\">automated platform<\/strong> that enables high-throughput screening and <strong data-start=\"3432\" data-end=\"3476\">real-time monitoring of microbial growth<\/strong> under different substrates and experimental conditions.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3534\" data-end=\"3797\">This tool has made it possible to optimise evaluation times, improve assay reproducibility and facilitate objective comparison between strains, thereby accelerating decision-making processes for strain selection with a view to scale-up and industrial application.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-185767 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ainia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/plataforma-cribado-automatizada-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ainia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/plataforma-cribado-automatizada-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.ainia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/plataforma-cribado-automatizada-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ainia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/plataforma-cribado-automatizada-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.ainia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/plataforma-cribado-automatizada.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 data-start=\"3804\" data-end=\"3880\"><strong data-start=\"3808\" data-end=\"3880\">Validation of industrial potential in dairy and plant-based matrices<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3882\" data-end=\"4305\">The project involved collaboration with the companies <strong data-start=\"3936\" data-end=\"3945\">ALNUT<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"3947\" data-end=\"3956\">DACSA<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"3961\" data-end=\"3970\">NATRA<\/strong>, with whom studies have been initiated to assess the <strong data-start=\"4024\" data-end=\"4060\">industrial application potential<\/strong> of the selected strains. In this framework, the fermentative capacity of previously characterised strains was evaluated using <strong data-start=\"4187\" data-end=\"4219\">whole milk as a raw material<\/strong>, with the aim of developing yoghurt without the need for additional starter cultures.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4307\" data-end=\"4571\">In parallel, fermentation trials were carried out in <strong data-start=\"4360\" data-end=\"4384\">plant-based matrices<\/strong>, including flour and other substrates, opening the door to the development of innovative products adapted to different markets and aligned with emerging trends in food and biotechnology.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-185762 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ainia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/colaboracion-emrpesa-bioprospect-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"colaboraci\u00f3n empresa\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ainia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/colaboracion-emrpesa-bioprospect-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.ainia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/colaboracion-emrpesa-bioprospect-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ainia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/colaboracion-emrpesa-bioprospect-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.ainia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/colaboracion-emrpesa-bioprospect.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h2 data-start=\"4578\" data-end=\"4653\"><strong data-start=\"4582\" data-end=\"4653\">Microbial bioprospecting as a driver of biotechnological innovation<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4655\" data-end=\"5060\">The results of BIOPROSPECT confirm the value of <strong data-start=\"4703\" data-end=\"4731\">microbial bioprospecting<\/strong> as a strategy to identify microorganisms with differentiated properties and to accelerate their transfer towards real-world applications.
